The government minister for housing, Kim Malthouse, has said that consideration is being given to require landlords of social housing to make public fire risk assessments and to ‘give more fire safety information to tenants.’

In an interview with Leslie Channon, the chair of the campaigning group, A Voice for Tenants, Mr Malthouse said that he was considering adopting a private members’ bill which calls for “provision about the requirements for fire safety information for occupants of certain buildings, including high-rise residential buildings.”

Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of building regulations following Grenfell Tower, says risk assessments should be given to tenants.

Some social housing providers are reported to be considering providing information voluntarily. Fire risk assessments are not usually shared with tenants.

The Information Commissioner last year told housing associations that they should publish them.
